Health
Prevention is always better than cure

A cat doesn't just need food and water to stay healthy and fit. It also needs all kinds of different stuff and to be taken care of properly.

Worming and de-fleaing
Cats can get worms and fleas. They pick them up from the trash on the streets and from other animals. There are all kinds of different remedies against worms and fleas at pet stores and the vets. It's always best to buy these remedies at the vets. The vet can give you the best advice as to which remedy is best for your cat and how to use this remedy.

Vaccinations
Through contact with people or other cats illnesses can enter your home. Cats that live inside must also be vaccinated. Administering shots against these illnesses is called vaccination. Make sure your cats gets all the necessary injections. This way it will stay healthy.

Neutering
A neutered cat cannot make or have kittens. There are so many cats in the Netherlands and all over the world that not all cats have a loving home. A lot of kittens and cats end up in a shelter, on the streets or worse are mistreated. This is terrible! Make sure your cat, male or female, is neutered in time. You can do this when your cat is about four months old.

A litter of baby cats is very cute of course. But what happens if too many cats are born. Play 100,000 kittens to find out how fast this happens!

Chipping
Every year a lot of cats walk away from home. Many of these cats cannot find their way back home. You can prevent this by giving your cat a chip. A chip is as small as a grain of rice. This is placed just under the cat’s skin. Most often the cat doesn’t even feel it's there. If a cat is found, it is usually taken to a shelter or to a veterinarian. Here they can scan the chip. On the chip is a number that is linked to the owner. The vet in your neighborhood will place the chip. A chip and a collar are always best. On the collar you can put your phone number and home address. This way people can see that the cat is yours. Use a collar that has rubber worked in it. These collars are safe for your cat. Others are dangerous.

Pet insurance
A sick cat or a cat that has had an accident has to go to the vet. The cost of the vet can range from hundreds up to thousands of euro's or dollars. Not everyone can afford or is willing to pay such fees. This is why you should get a pet insurance. Your cat is insured in case something happens to it. You pay a fixed premium for the insurance and will not be surprised by high veterinary bills.
